Jean Paul Gaultier

You know I’m so Naute one to throw around couture names, but I just have to gush over Jean Paul Gaultier!  The Husband took me to JPG’s exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art this past weekend, and OMG, it didn’t disappoint. 🙂

JPG’s designs are all very unique and costume-like, which is what really attracts me.  One of my favorite collections was “Punk Can Can”, a line with a lot of black, plaid, jean, fishnets, boots, and mohawks, of course. 🙂 His famous Cone Bra (which Madonna wore during her Blonde Ambition tour), along with several boudoir-themed corsets and dresses were lavishly on display next to what I playfully call the “S & M” section:  lots of leather, synthetic hair, clips and other metal accessories.  Still trying to catch my breath from everything in this incredible exhibit!

The Husband certainly looked handsome in his dark rust poplin shirt (only $12.97 at Walmart) and this very fab vest find at Goodwill for only $1.50! 🙂 It’s navy blue with the same rust color stitched throughout.  I found my Vera Wang skirt and jacket combo at Kohls during a post-season clearance sale for around $25.00.  Not bad considering it also came with this cool pin made from layers of black sheer material.  Super Sassy!

When was the last time you attended an art show made of fine fashions?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

LOVE was definitely in the air at this month’s Bunco Night!  Our hostess, Karen, made the food and friendship tons of fun!

My heart was aflutter with all the compliments about my costume. 🙂 A simple $2.00 red T-shirt from Walmart and little black lace skirt were the base for themed accessories.  Wanna know a secret about these super cute thigh-hi’s?  Just snipped off the legs of a pair of tights and…Voilà!  I added several yards of tulle to my $4.00 Buffalo Exchange velvet top hat, and the red feather wings made this Cupid feel like flying!

Thanks Karen, and to my sweet friend, Lynn, for inviting me to sub at Bunco Night! 🙂

The Family That Shops Together…

Author: msmona  //  Category: Tips

Superbowl Sunday doesn’t have to be about football – for The Husband and I, it was about spending time away from the television to hang out with each other. 🙂

As you can see, we have different ideas of where to shop, but we both agree that browsing through weekend clearance sale racks is super fun, even if we don’t buy anything! 🙂 Of course, we like to “dress up” when we go out and about, so we threw on some basic black pieces, including a fabulous I.N.C. cropped jacket I found at ReThreads in Dallas and my favorite layered palazzo pants.  And I’m loving this $5.00 purse I picked up at Hope’s Door Resale – ooh, shiny!  Husband’s striped button down from Target is one of those cool colors that change based upon the lighting.  Is it purple, burgundy, brown?  Whatever color it is, he looks GOOD wearing it!

By the way, SO HAPPY the Giants won!  Go Eli! 🙂

Joyeux Noël

Merry Christmas to all MsMona readers!

What a beautiful day to spend with family, here and in spirit.  I thought about Mom and how stylish she always looked for church, so I chose this classic black and white Chanel-inspired outfit in her honor. 🙂 Would you guess the jacket and skirt are from different department stores?  I was lucky to find this $15.00 I.N.C. jacket at Macy’s (originally $129.00) and mega clearance Allen B skirt at JC Penney.  Woo Hoo!

Mom also liked to accessorize, with hats being one of her fashion favorites.  I found this netted fascinator at Ross for only $14.99! 🙂 This type of popular headwear can be quite expensive, so I was happy to come across such a special piece.  My black patent purse with zipper and flower accents was a $5.00 bargain buy at Charming Charlie – I just removed these chain links from my skirt and clipped them to the front of the bag for a little extra shine!

I hope your Christmas was a magical celebration.  Happy Birthday, Jesus!

Ain’t Scared of Stripes!

Author: msmona  //  Category: Tips

I totally understand:   Stripes can make us look short.

Newsflash – at 5 feet tall, I AM short! 🙂

Doesn’t matter to me, STRIPES ROCK!  When I saw these adorable dresses, the colors are what caught my eye.  They both screamed “Girlie” (pink/gray I.N.C.) and “Fun” (multi Old Navy), so with each barely being out of the single digits, how could I say no?!  Simple black Walmart accessories were the warmer additions, while the hot pink “Team Naughty” 🙂 holiday pin on my beanie, well that just made me giggle…

As if you couldn’t tell already, I’ve always been a fashion rebel.  What other styles or patterns do you love, but are considered no-no’s by the Style Gods?
