2nd Annual Survivor Sisters Fashion Show

Author: msmona  //  Category: Tips

The last month has been a whirlwind of meetings, phone calls and fittings to prepare for our Survivor Sisters Fashion Show at Dillard’s in Fairview, TX! :)  We are so incredibly thankful for these businesses and individuals who stepped forward with their time and services to create another successful show:

– Our hosts and make-up artists at Dillard’s Fairview
– Hair artistry by Jade – and thank you’s to Stacey, Dawniella, and especially Rene at Rene’s Lagniappe Hair Design
– Lunch donation by Patrizio
– DJ Maco Amoyo
– Model gift bags & goodies from Susan G. Komen’s Nicole Vazquez, model and Survivor Gals’ Kathy Johnson, and model, Faye Mackmiller.
– Reception donation by Becky Thompson at Tastefully Yours Bakery and Catering
– Massages by Susan L. Johnson
– Ribbon maker and model, Janette Moline
– Flower donation by model, Melanie Anderson
– Water donations by models, Carla Whitlock and Jeanette Atkins Carter

Whenever CL & I volunteer together, I try to keep both of us in themed outfits.  CL’s pink Wrangler breast cancer shirt came from our friend Angel’s closet. :)  What’s great is CL and Angel’s Daddy both wore the same shirt at the fashion show!  I just know Angel got a kick out of that!  In honor of my girl, I wore these hot pink patent kids’ construction boots with a tailor-made satin skirt and tulle petticoat.  Orange accessories, and these gorgeous beaded “Flings” by my sweet friend Ruby Teets at Gifts4TheGoddess, completed my colorful tribute to our cancer survivor sisters.

And I can’t forget to thank my amazing husband, CL Stegall, for all of his work as the photographer and videographer for the day!  Without you, I couldn’t do any of this, Honey – I Love You!

Metal Mania!

Author: msmona  //  Category: Tips

I admit it – I’m a total 80’s Girl! :)  I used to wear those tight jean shorts covered with distressed holes (strategically placed, of course), neon tie-dyed T’s, and inconceivably coiffed hair, courtesy of my highly toxic can of Aqua Net.  But one of my favorite embellishments was metal!

When I saw this leopard printed mini skirt for $9.00, as well as the black International Concepts shirt, I immediately loved the blend of old school metal with the current style.  I had originally seen the INC shirt at Macy’s for around $70.00, so finding both of these deals at 1/2 of 1/2 just made complete $en$e. 🙂

I wore the skirt to a Christian Women’s meeting and the shirt to a North Texas Chamber event.  If you had a few rad metal pieces in your wardrobe, OMG, where would you wear them?

Got It Bad for Betsey!

Author: msmona  //  Category: Tips

What’s better than finding fun, whimsical jewelry on clearance?  How about attending an amazing “Buy One/Get One” V.I.P. shopping event at Betsey Johnson’s NorthPark boutique!  My sweet friend, Cara, helped me find adorable matching baubles that I can wear with my basic clothing pieces – in addition to the accessories, visit the store through this holiday weekend for lots of great deals on clothes and shoes, too!

Keep checking back to see what I wear with my new BJ jewels…

Fashion Forward: Deidra “Dee Dee” Roe

Author: msmona  //  Category: Tips

Name:  Deidra “Dee Dee” Roe

Title:   Owner, “Dee Dee Style” on Etsy.com

MM:  What was your inspiration in creating Dee Dee Style?
DR:  “I was inspired by a photo of a vintage glass button in the January 2010 issue of a Swedish home decor magazine, Jean d’Arc Living.  They used it to decorate a candlestick.  I thought to myself “Oh that is way too pretty to just put on a shelf for a random person to admire, it needs to be worn out in the world for many to see & enjoy!”

MM:  What made you choose Etsy to showcase your brand?
DR:  “Cheap & Easy!!”

MM:  Between all of your beautiful designs, what is your favorite thing to make, and why?
DR:  “Probably my tees.  They take me back to my childhood, when I would play fashion designer & boutique in my room.  It is a thrill to know that it is a reality today and brings a lot of joy to my heart and makes me smile.”

MM:  Who do you look to as your fashion/style icon?
DR:  “Wow, that is a tough one – there are so many.  I would have to say there are two:  Jackie O and Ralph Lauren.  Jackie had such grace and class.  I have always loved Ralph’s designs and his layering effects – always classic.”

MM:  When you’re not in your studio, where can we find Ms. Deidra?
DR:  “A few places – on the couch watching TV or reading, out on the road running or at a flea market/garage sale!”

MM:  What do you want to be when you grow up? 🙂
DR:  “Free, simply free to be me.”

MM:  What Nugget of Fashion Wisdom could you share with MsMona’s fans?
DR:  “To create a fashion journal; fill a notebook with magazine, catalog cutouts of all of the outfits you like, this will help you to define your own fashion taste/style.  It is critical in fashion to know who you are to the depth of your core.  Fashion is simply an expression of an individual – so be you!”
